heart valves

Who donates the heart valves?

  • All those who given their consent (individually or by law) to donate organs or tissues. Many donations are made by people receiving a heart transplant, because their heart muscle, but not the heart valves, is severely damaged.
  • Tissue donation has a larger pool of potential donors as, in contrast to organ donation, tissue can be removed and processed for transplantation even after cardiac death of the donor.

Does corlife know who donates the heart valve and to whom they will be donated?

No, corlife does not have any information on the donors or recipients of the donated tissue. To ensure the traceability of all processes, each tissue donation is assigned a number. Corlife only has access to this number and cannot infer any information on individual donor/recipient from this.
